ATTN: Parents of the Class of 2010

Please note that our Senior Prom will be held this year at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadow Park on Friday, June 4th, 2010 from 7pm until 11pm. Students all received a letter in their Economics Class outlining information about prom, and information about purchasing prom tickets. Tickets will be $65 each. Please be advised that students will need to have paid the balance of their Senior Dues to be able to purchase their tickets. They may purchase tickets during their lunch periods and after school in my office. If paying by check, please make the check out to NYCMS Senior Class Fund. Tickets will be available for pick up June 1st through June 3rd. Students will need to bring their tickets and picture identification to prom. (Also, any guests of seniors will need to bring picture identification.) Our photographer will be creating CDs for prom attendees, which will be available for pick up by graduation.

This year's Graduation Ceremony will be held at Columbia University's Roone Arledge Auditorium starting at 11am on Friday, June 25th. Students will be allocated 2 tickets for family members.

from Ms. Thiede:
I have been asking students in class to provide me with the names of the colleges that they have been accepted to. Starting in the first week of June, I will abe asking them to provide the name and address of the college that they will be attending in fall so that I can send out their final transcripts before I leave for summer vacation. It is important that they provide this information to me before Regents Week, which starts on June 15th. If they are still deciding on which school to attend, they can give me more than one address. Please be advised that once vacation starts, I won't be back to school until the fall, so I won't be able to send final transcripts over the summer. Also, transcript requests must be made in writing. Students can either fill out and sign the final transcript request form, or they can e-mail their request to me with their name, their DOB, and the name of the school and its address. I will send e-mail confirmation to them once the request has been processed.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me at pthiede@schools.nyc.gov or call me at 212-675-6206 x266.

Hello, to parents and friends of the NYC Museum School!

We are in our fourteenth year since our Museum Partners and the Dept. of Education formed an alliance that would use the authentic and unique objects of the museums as the basis for a one-of-a-kind interdisciplinary studies program. The program is a strong foundation for generating independent, capable thinkers and learners.

Please use this site as a tool with which to follow the events of our school on the school's calendar, to contact teachers via their individual pages, and to stay abreast of new events in your child's classes by following the class pages.

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for being a part of The NYC Museum School!

From the College Office - Ms. Thiede

The members of the Class of 2011 and I have already been busy at work on the college planning process. We have completed an on line career search which helped them identify potential careers that they might be interested in pursuing, and will also help them to think of majors that they might be interested in studying. Many students have registered for the May or June SAT or the June ACT. The next time that the SAT will be offered is in October. We also had an assembly program where they received important pre-college planning information and a College Planning Questionnaire. If they haven't returned the questionnaire to me, please ask them to do so in the next couple of weeks. (A link to the questionnaire is available on this site.) Students should all have completed a profile on fastweb.com so that they will begin receiving information about scholarships that they are eligible for. Another good site is cappex.com where students can do a college search and see if they are good matches. Additionally, collegeboard.com is a great place to do a college search and to read information about the college application process.

I have information on programs that have offered free or redeuced cost SAT prep in the past. Your student is welcome to stop by and pick up this information and call for availability. Revolution Prep has also provided SAT prep on site in the Summer. Please go to their website (revolutionprep.com) to fill out an application and find out about fees. Their summer classes at Museum/Lab Schools start on July 6th. You may also check out any of the fine programs offered by Kaplan and The Princeton Review.

A bulleting of summer programs available at colleges is available in my office. Students should stop by and pick up the information. There are some great opportunities to spend summer earning college credit! Summer is also a great time to plan some college visits. Most colleges and universities have classes in summer but they aren't as busy as they are in the school year. You can get a feel of different colleges. Feel free to contact their admissions offices to see if tours are available.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me at pthiede@schools.nyc.gov or call me at (212) 675-6206 x266.

I look forward to speaking with you!
